Subaru Outback
| | Model of the car: | Subaru Outback | | | General comments: | Great car. Hands down the best that I’ve owned. I’ll be completely honest and tell you that sometimes I long for the cool factor of an Xterra or the machismo of the GMC Yukon, but when I run the numbers and think seriously about what I want from a car the Outback is far and away the best choice. I decided to buy the Outback after I got tired of my Jeep Cherokee breaking down, and after I was tired of my insurance company charging me 15% more for 4 wheel drive on my 4Runner. The Outback has been solid in the snow and predictable when it’s dry. AWD is the greatest thing that I’ve had. A Swiss Army knife for the woods and city too.
There are things that I wish that I would change, as with anthing. It’s a bit underpowered, but that just means that it takes a bit longer to get up to illegal speeds. Never been a real problem. There has been a problem with the check engine light being on for no apparent reason (Maybe me putting 87 gas in it I think) but with a car that has 100,000 miles on it and otherwise is perfect I’m ok with ignoring the light until it goes back off. I just replaced the timing belt on it to prepare to get the next 100,000 miles on it and had a great dealer experience. They were actually the cheapest place I found to replace the belt, and they cut me a deal on the other things that I decided to do at the same time (sparkplugs, etc). Great experience with the dealer overall. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | • 1996 Needs high octane gas
