Outback
| | Model of the car: | Outback | | | General comments: | I have owned my Outback for almost three years now, and I can honestly say that this car is everything it says it is. It is hard to find something to complain about on this car. This is the first Subaru I have owned... and I am impressed. The car handles great.. Has outstanding braking power, and good power and excelleration. Visibility while driving is great, and the cockpit area is extremely comfortable and well laid out.
When it comes to the SUV aspects of the outback, it excels. While its ground clearance is good, its tight suspension makes it even better off road. I have had my car up some rough roads and it has always done wonderfully. Cargo room is great. I can haul two ice chests and lots of gear for camping trips plus five people. As for Subaru's all wheel drive system... it is hard to say enough good things. It is simply amazing. This car sticks to the snow better than any other four wheel drive vehicle. It is tough to even get it to slide on snowy roads. I have driven on roads that had 8" of fresh snow, as well as had my outback sunk in 6" of mud off road, and the all wheel drive has always got me home safely.
The safety of this car is another reason I puchased it. They get excellent crash test results in all areas. And if that is not enough, I have a real life story that speaks for itself. I know someone who owned an outback and was in a bad wreck in it. They swerved to miss a dear while traveling too fast down a dirt road in the mountains of Washington. He went off about a five foot rock cliff and then tumbled end over end down a fourty foot bank until finally landing on his roof at the bottom. He was unharmed and was hanging by his seatbelt upsidedown. The car was destroyed, but the integrity of the passenger compartment was perfect. He said after the wreck that the only reason he was standing there was because of that car.
Let me just say this. After two and a half years of ownership, I would buy another Outback if I did it all over again. Yes, there are little things like the cup holder position that I could complain about, but that is minor to me. This car is highly reliable, and well disigned. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | Not a high ground clearance vehicle for extreme off roading, back seat is a little cramped for three, cup holder slightly blocks some radio controls. | | | Previous car: | Honda CRV, Ford Explorer, Chevy Blazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee |
